Ephesus Entrance Fee & Tickets (2026): Prices, Passes & Skip-the-Line

How much is the Ephesus entrance fee in 2026?

A ticket to Ephesus costs €40 for foreign visitors in 2026. It covers the whole ancient city from the upper gate to the lower gate, the Ephesus Experience Museum at the lower gate and the audio guide. The Terrace Houses inside the site need a separate €15 ticket.

Prices are set in euros but charged in Turkish lira at the day's rate. The Ministry has already published the 2027 tariff: from 1 April 2027 most prices go up by €1 to €5.

The House of the Virgin Mary is the one site here the Ministry does not run, which is why it is priced in lira and does not appear on the tariff. Is there a combined ticket for Ephesus?

Yes. The Ministry sells two combined tickets for foreign visitors, each valid for 72 hours from first use. They save a few euros and mean one ticket queue instead of several.

Is the Museum Pass worth it for Ephesus?

Only if you visit more than Ephesus and Selçuk. MuseumPass The Aegean costs €95 (€105 from April 2027), is valid for 7 days from your first visit and gives one entry to each of 51 Ministry sites in the region, including Ephesus, the Terrace Houses, the Ephesus Museum and St John's.

Those four sites cost €65 on the combined ticket, so the pass needs another €30 of visits to break even. Hierapolis–Pamukkale alone costs €30, so the pass pays off if you add Pamukkale or two or three smaller sites such as Miletus, Priene or Aphrodisias in the same week. The pass is not valid for night openings. The nationwide MuseumPass Türkiye costs €165 for 15 days and only makes sense on a longer trip around the country.

How do you buy Ephesus tickets?

You have three options, and none of them needs to be booked days ahead:

1. At the gate. Both gates have ticket offices. Pay by card or in Turkish lira.
2. Online. The Ministry's only official ticket shop is muze.gov.tr. You show the QR code at the turnstile and skip the ticket-office queue.
3. On a tour with tickets included. The guide holds the tickets, so you go straight to the turnstile.

Two things catch people out at the ticket office:

• Euro notes are not accepted. Pay with Visa or Mastercard, or in Turkish lira cash. American Express is often declined.
• Children need proof of age. Children aged 8 and under enter free, but only with a passport or a clear copy of it. Without one, the gate charges the full adult price.

How long is the queue at Ephesus?

On a busy high-season day the wait at the ticket office can take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the day and on how many cruise ships are in port. The turnstile and bag check move much faster, and faster again when you arrive with a licensed guide who already holds your tickets.

Buying your ticket online removes the ticket-office queue, but not the turnstile. To avoid the crowds as well, go early: the best time to visit Ephesus covers the quietest months and hours.

Is the Terrace Houses ticket worth €15?

For most first-time visitors, yes. Dr. Asil Tunçer, our founder and a historian who has guided at Ephesus for 40 years, gives three reasons:

• The best-preserved Roman art at Ephesus. Intact floor mosaics and mythological wall frescoes that look remarkably fresh after 2,000 years.
• Ancient luxury up close. You walk through multi-storey villas with underfloor hypocaust heating, private baths and indoor plumbing.
• Shade. The whole complex sits under a large modern roof, a cool break from the sun in the middle of the open-air ruins.

What are the Ephesus opening hours?

Ephesus is open every day of the year. In summer 2026 (1 May to 1 October) the gates open at 08:00; the upper gate sells its last ticket at 18:00 and the lower gate at 19:00.

From June to 1 October the site also opens on Wednesday to Saturday evenings from 19:00 to 23:00. Museum passes are not valid for these night openings.

Who gets into Ephesus free?

Among foreign visitors, entry is free for:

• Children aged 8 and under, with a passport or a copy of it
• Disabled visitors
• Holders of an ICOM, ICOMOS or UNESCO card, or a press card

There is no student or senior discount for foreign tourists. The discounted MüzeKart is only for Turkish citizens, Blue Card holders and students enrolled in Turkey, and it is not valid at the Terrace Houses.

How can you skip the queue at Ephesus?
